Times that Try Men’s Souls

As was true at the time Thomas Paine, a founding father of America, wrote this quote on December 23, 1776 in a series of articles titled, The Crisis, so it rings true today. These are indeed times that are trying our souls. The crisis at that time was the colonies fighting for their freedom from the tyrannical monarchy of England.

What comes to my mind when I think of their struggles then and our struggles now is the scripture, Ephesians 6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

It seems to me that we have come full circle back to our nation’s beginnings; the battle ensues daily to keep our rights and freedoms. What does freedom means to us as American? To me it means worshipping God as I see fit; proclaiming the gospel from the rooftops, saying the word sinner, or sin and not fearing being politically incorrect, freedom to choose, freedom of speech, the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. Everything our founding fathers and colonists fought for is on the threshold of change.

Every man, woman and child in America needs to wake up and fully understand what is happening. Prayer is the greater work and it is essential that we should all be praying for our leaders at all levels of government daily; executive, legislative and judicial. Our education system has been under attack for years. The battle for the minds and souls of our children and our Judeo Christian morals and values and principals are hanging in the balance, and it’s not leaning in a good direction. As a people, we are being assaulted on many fronts, but the family, marriage and our children, as especially under attack.

I urge you, to get involved and write to your elected officials, call them and let them know how you feel about the bills that are sweeping across the floors of the House and the Senate. Pray and take action. Go to your school board meetings, run for office, volunteer. Not one American can afford to be a bystander any longer.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in his mighty power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

The good news is: God is sovereign and will exercise ultimate control over the universe. We are only looking through a mirror dimly, until He comes and reveals His glory. The Bible assures us, His victory is guaranteed.
